‘No plans for car park at Delvin’

Westmeath County Council has no plans to provide a car park in the centre of Delvin town, Cllr Frank McDermott was informed when he suggested at the December meeting of the Mullingar Kinnegad Municipal District that one be provided.

The conclusion of the official response by the district to Cllr McDermott’s suggestion stated that the council would, nonetheless, work with the community to ensure parking is managed sufficiently.

Cllr McDermott said there is a suitable site with access off Main Street, on the Ballyhealy Road: “I think negotiations should be encouraged,” he said.

Water station

A request that district fund installation of a water refill station at the car park in Fore was also made at the district’s December meeting by Cllr McDermott.

The response provided by the district stated that the local community can apply for funding under the Community Climate Action Fund for which applications are being accepted up to February 28, 2024.

At the same meeting, Cllr McDermott asked that the district clear the blocked drain under Road L18265 at Mayne, Coole.

“This will be carried out as part of normal drainage maintenance within the next four weeks,” he was assured.

Dominick Street lights

The street lights on Dominick Street, Mullingar are to be upgraded to LEDs, Cllr Bill Collentine was assured at the December meeting . The Fianna Fáil man was, however, disappointed to learn that the work is not likely to be undertaken until the autumn of 2024.

A further request by Cllr Collentine at the same meeting was that the remove a tree stump in Central Park and carry out repairs to the footpath. “This will be removed in the next four weeks,” the district responded.
