Remove large trees along roadsides, says local election canditate

A local election candidate has called for the removal of large trees along roadsides to “improve safety and prevent power outages as seen with Storm Isha”.

In a statement released last night, Sinn Féin local election candidate in the Kinnegad electoral area David Jones urged “for action to remove large trees along road sides”.

“The recent storm caused widespread power outages and road blockages due to fallen trees, creating dangerous conditions for our road users,” he said.

Jones has observed that these large trees “pose a serious threat to public safety and infrastructure”.

He is advocating for a “proactive approach to removing these trees in order to help prevent future power outages and road hazards”.

To address this issue, Jones says a plan to remove large trees that pose a threat to power lines and roadways should be implemented. He believes that grants should be offered to farmers and landowners to assist with the cost of tree removal.

"We must take meaningful steps to mitigate the risks associated with fallen trees and power outages," he said.
