Athlone Town stadium hit by another burglary with goods worth €3,000 stolen

Athlone Town Football Club said it was targeted by another "extremely disheartening" burglary this week.

The incident occurred in the early hours of yesterday (Thursday), and involved the theft of electrical equipment valued at approximately €3,000.

The club said the equipment taken was of crucial importance for the online streaming of Athlone Town's matches.

It's the latest in a string of burglaries or robberies to have taken place at the stadium in Lissywollen over the last number of years.

"This repeated occurrence is extremely disheartening," said Athlone Town AFC in a statement this morning.

"Our club has always strived to bring our football to as many people as possible and these incidents severely impact our ability to do so.

"We appeal to anyone who may have been in the vicinity of our stadium around 3am on January 25, or anyone who might have information about the incident."

The club also asked members of the public to be vigilant if they see electrical equipment being offered for sale in suspicious circumstances.

"If you come across individuals selling electrical equipment under suspicious circumstances, we urge you to report it to us or directly to the Gardai in Athlone.

"This is more than just a loss of equipment; it's an attack on the spirit of our club. We are determined to overcome this setback and continue our mission of bringing football to our supporters.

"We appreciate any assistance the public can provide in this matter. Thank you for your ongoing support and vigilance," the Athlone Town statement concluded.
