Wolfe Tones to headline Westmeath Bachelor Festival

The Wolfe Tones play The Bachelor Dome at Blackhall in the centre of Mullingar as the headline act of this year’s Westmeath Bachelor Festival, on Sunday August 4.

The festival organising team have confirmed the news this week, and also released the dates and other details.

It takes place over the August bank holiday weekend, and starts on the Wednesday, July 31, and there will be a number of community and public events, including the Bachelor Competition itself on Friday August 2.

The main event of the week will be the headline act of The Wolfe Tones, who are on their 60th anniversary tour. The support acts in the The Bachelor Dome are Gary O’Brien, Fieldsy, Some One’s Sons and George Murphy and the Rising Sons.

The festival team are certain it will be a sell-out event and as capacity will be less than 5000, they advise early ticket purchase.

In a statement, they said: “As organisers we would like to publicly thank MCD for their support in making this event happen, and we look forward to working with Ireland’s biggest promoters in the future to bring large scale events and concerts to Mullingar on an ongoing basis.”

On the Friday night, August 2, to coincide with the Bachelor Competition, a barndance hoedown is planned, and they promise the best of Ireland’s American country jive. “Get your boots and stetsons out, as our American theme will have vintage USA cars, rodeo bulls and more, as we dance the night away to the Garth Brooks tribute band and others.”

Some of the biggest bands of the 90s will be in town on the Saturday night, August 3 – who the acts are will be revealed after The Wolfe Tones event goes on sale.

If you have purchased tickets for any event and want to upgrade to a weekend pass that will be facilitated in time on the Scope Tickets platform.

Details of the competition to find Ireland’s most eligible Bachelor will also be released over the coming weeks, and the WB Festival team “will again play Ireland’s top showbiz talent on our judging panel”.

Wolfe Tones tickets go on sale on Friday, February 23, at 9am at Scope Tickets.

Concluding their statement, the WB Festival Team said: “This year’s events will again take place in Blackhall car park and we have redesigned the site layout in response to challenges we faced in the last two years.

“We have redesigned and increased our bar and toilet area to accommodate larger numbers and have teamed up with the Irish company, Scope Tickets, as our ticket platform to avoid any of the difficulties we encountered in the past.

“We would again like to thank Westmeath County Council, An Garda Síochána, local business and you the public for all your support to date.

“Details of the community events to take place throughout the week will be released over the coming weeks, and we expect 10-12,000 people will come to Mullingar over the period.”

All events are subject to relevant licences, permissions and agreements.
