Funding sought for Maxie statue

The means of funding a statue of the boxer Maxie McCullough in Mullingar have not yet been determined, Cllr Andrew Duncan was informed when he sought an update at February’s meeting of the Municipal District of Mullingar Kinnegad on what progress has been made.

Cllr Duncan reminded the meeting that it had been he who had around August or September proposed erection of the monument:

“This is something that we did agree would be looked at, and I’m trying to follow it up to make sure it doesn’t fall through the cracks,” he stated.

The written response from the executive stated that the district is willing to engage with the relevant group/s to examine a suitable piece and appropriate location: “However a potential funding source will have to be examined, possibly as part of the Estimates,” it concluded.

Ardleigh light

Ardleigh Park has a cul de sac in need of a light, Cllr Duncan also told officials at the February meeting.

The response to his request stated that there is an existing light outside a property at Ardleigh Park which serves to light the end of the cul-de-sac and the turning circle.

“The lighting contractor can be requested to carry out a survey of the lighting at this location,” the response concluded.
