A member of Mullingar Rugby Club, Diarmuid Staunton from Coralstown, got to accompany Ireland captain Peter O'Mahony as he led his charges out to the field yesterday after winning a nationwide art competition. His winning drawing was of Johnny Sexton scoring his now legendary drop goal against France in 2018.

A spokesperson for Mullingar RFC said that everyone in the club is delighted for Diarmuid.

“It's a really special moment for him and everyone is very proud.

“It's not every day someone from our town gets to do something this cool.

“We were all cheering for Diarmuid at the big game. It shows that if you work hard and love what you do, you can do amazing things.”

Diarmuid is a proud member of Mullingar RFC.
