Fleadh chairperson to be grand marshall for St Patrick’s Day Parade in Mullingar

Reinforcing ‘Celebrating Mullingar’s Musical Legacy’ as the theme of the 2024 Mullingar St Patrick’s Day Festival, the committee have announced that Joe Connaire, chairperson of the Fleadh Cheoil, is the grand marshall for the 2024 St Patrick’s Day Parade in Mullingar.

Reflecting on this new role, Joe said it was great to see the parade in Mullingar last year and fantastic to see how successful it was. “This may have come on the back of the fleadh, which inspired people to come out and celebrate. I compliment and thank the St Patrick’s Festival Committee on the work they did last year, and for sticking with it this year.

“It’s an honour for me to be asked to be the grand marshall of this year’s parade. Together we’ll continue to keep Mullingar on the map, to build on these great events and continue to bring good things to the town and to the county of Westmeath.”

St Patrick’s Day Festival 2024 in Mullingar

The St Patrick’s Day festivities in Mullingar start on Saturday March 16.

Festivities begin at 6.30pm in Mullingar Harbour, where local music, singers and talent will perform, as they await the arrival of St Patrick, on a barge

Our patron saint will sail from the Dublin Bridge side into the harbour, and everyone is welcome to join at the Dublin Bridge at 6.30pm, and walk alongside his barge, to the harbour.

Community groups such as the Mullingar Harbour Canoe Club and Boher National School will contribute to the entertainment on the evening. There will be something for all the family, so come along and enjoy an hour or two outdoors and get St Patrick’s Festival off to a great start in the town.

The St Patrick’s Festival 5km walk and run returns on the day itself, Sunday March 17, at 10am (immediately after the AON half Marathon starts)

The St Patrick’s Day parade starts at 3pm at the Green Bridge and moves along the main streets to finish at Nugent’s Corner (Bridge Bar).
