Seed library idea proposed by Councillor Wallace

A novel idea that came up for discussion at the Municipal District of Mullingar Kinnegad’s most recent meeting was that of development of a “seed library”.

The project was proposed by Cllr Emily Wallace, who explained that the way it would work is that gardeners could ‘borrow’ seeds in the spring and save some from their harvested crop to ‘return’ to the library after harvest, thus creating a self-sustaining collection.

The written response from the district stated that Westmeath Libraries are currently exploring partnerships to develop this project in a sustainable manner.

Cllr Wallace said that it would add to the growing range of services on offer from Westmeath Libraries, including the toy library, the music library, and the coming-on-stream musical instrument library.
