Burke welcomes €12.3m roads funding for Westmeath

An allocation of €12.3m for roads in Westmeath has been welcomed by Minister Peter Burke.

The funding will go towards road repairs, new projects and greenways in the county.

Some of the major allocations include €1.4m for the N4 Mullingar to Longford Road and €2.6m for the Athlone Bridge Cycleway.

Minister Burke said these allocations are essential to the regions development.

“Investment in connectivity projects in the rural constituency of Longford Westmeath is essential and improving our road networks allows us to engineer for road safety, improve journey times and develop rural business,” he said.

Some €820,000 was also allocated for the Kilbeggan to Mullingar Greenway, an exciting new project that is currently in design stage.

Road maintenance projects were allocated over €500,000 while capital projects, including active travel, were allocated €4.7m in total and greenway projects were allocated €5.6m

Minister Burke also welcomed a €4.8m funding announcement for roads in Longford.
