Memorable evening for Na Piarsaigh hurling club as U19 title celebrated

The Na Piarsaigh hurling club celebrated a significant success by their under 19 hurlers at a special presentation evening in Collinstown on Saturday, February 17.

Westmeath senior hurling manager Joe Fortune was guest of honour for the evening and he was fulsome in his praise of the two hurling clubs, Turin and Lough Lene Gaels, who have made the independent team such a success story.

Gary Nolan, chairman, welcomed everyone to the event and praised the efforts of the players, coaches, parents and all involved with Na Piarsaigh club. Alan Leech, Turin, prepared and read the player bios for the presentation evening and theses were well received by all.

Westmeath star and proud Lough Lene Gaels hurler, Tommy Doyle, joined Joe Fortune and well-known Turin hurler Ray Aughey in presenting the medals and it proved a very worthy acknowledgement of the players' efforts.

Overall, the event was a great success and catering was provided by David Smyth, which was well received by all present.

Na Piarsaigh overcame Castletown Geoghegan, 1-14 to 2-8, to win the U19 title in November and complete a memorable year for the independent club. Turin and Lough Lene Gaels have been working actively on the project for some years now and many fine young hurlers have been brought through the system.
