DMA present final concert of spring 2024 season

The Derravaragh Music Association present Noa Wildschut, Pablo Barragán and Amadeus Wiesensee in their final spring concert of 2024, at Tullynally Castle on Saturday, March 9.

Violinist and former ECHO Rising Star, Noa Wildschut will be joined by the brilliant clarinettist Pablo Barragán and exceptional young pianist Amadeus Wiesensee.

The trio will present their interpretation of some of the best-known works for clarinet, violin and piano, including Saint-Saëns’s elegant sonata for clarinet and piano, alongside exuberant dance melodies from Hungry and Romania and a beautiful jazz influenced Sonata for violin and piano.

The evening will close with music by Schoenfield drawing extensively on the traditional Klezmer music of Eastern Europe.

The clarinet can produce both a tear-jerking, melancholy sound and warm, comical-sounding notes. Captivating also are its bright arpeggios, which excite the listener. An arpeggio consists of the notes of a chord played individually.

Passionate and adventurous both in performance and in his approach to programming, Pablo Barragán is considered one of the world’s leading clarinettists. He is recognised for his refined sound paired with a high skill of craftsmanship, stage charisma and boundless curiosity for the programming of his performances.

Since 2020 Pablo Barragán is professor at the Barenboim-Said Academy in Seville and at master classes such as Escuela Superior de Música Reina Sofía in Madrid.

At the age of seven, Noa Wildschut made her debut in the main hall of Concertgebouw, Amsterdam, at the ‘Night of the Promising’, and today the young Dutch violinist has established herself as a soloist and collaborator of the highest calibre. Described by Anne-Sophie Mutter as “undoubtedly one of the musical hopes of her generation”, she works with orchestras such as Pittsburgh Symphony Orchestra, Radio Philharmonic Orchestra of Holland, Netherlands Philharmonic, Concertgebouw Chamber Orchestra, Dresden Philharmonic, Royal Scottish Symphony Orchestra, Royal Liverpool Philharmonic and Camerata Salzburg, among others.

Amadeus Wiesensee is a talented young pianist who gave his debut with the Münchner Rundfunkorchester at the age of 12. His performance style has been described as “poetic and ecstatic at world-class level” by violinist Arabella Steinbacher. Recently, Wiesensee has been the recipient of many awards including Cultural Star of the Year (classical music category) by the Münchner Abendzeitung in 2019, Bavarian State Ministry for Science and Art’s Kunstförderpreis (music category) in 2021 and he was also selected as the first artist-in-residence of the Beethoven-Haus Bonn (2021).

In 2023, Wiesensee made his debut at the Bremer Glocke, Mendelssohn-Haus Leipzig, Schubertiade Barcelona and returned to festivals Beethovenfest Bonn and Festspiele Mecklenburg-Vorpommern.

There is the opportunity to have supper in the dining room at Tullynally after the concert. Supper tickets (two courses and wine) are €35 and tickets are available through Eventbrite when you purchase your tickets.

Derravaragh Music Association thanked Music Network for their support for the concert. “This support is essential if we are to continue to hear live music of this quality across the country.”

This final concert of spring 2024 starts at 7pm with doors open at 6.30. Tickets are €28 (half price U18s) and available through the Derravaragh Music website, derravaraghmusic.ie or from Eventbrite.
