Ballinafid Multyfarnham Bunbrosna Active celebrate International Women’s Day

BMB Active hosted a lovely lunch and lively discussion as a way of celebrating International Women’s Day, on Friday, March 8.

Weir’s Restaurant was the hospitable venue for the gathering, on a cold afternoon, with a roaring fire lit, where attendees contemplated the theme of the day: inclusion.

Kamalika Ranasingha spoke of her journey from her native Sri Lanka to the Multyfarnham Cookery School she now runs at the Franciscan Friary buildings in the village.

Her many positive comments focused on the similarities between the various cultures as well as the benefits of travel and the fusion of ideas, with kindness resounding throughout.

Margaret Kieran, BMB Active member and published author, read mindfully selected poems capturing the beauty in the ordinary, as well as the profound significance of the shared experiences of motherhood.

Sheetal Patel gave an emotive account of her life journey encompassing three continents, from Kenya to India, to the USA to the UK, to Multyfarnham.

There’s a saying that ‘we are the sum total of everyone we have ever met’.

Sheetal’s warmth and compassion are living examples of how important kindness and compassion are in creating our own happiness and joy.

BMB Active are the better for sharing these journeys, “so go raibh maith agat to the speakers”.

“Thanks for much to Oonagh, Pat and Elaine Weir for their hospitality on International Women’s Day.

“Thanks also to the members and friends who supported the raffle and took the time to join us for this event.”
