Mullingar’s Coláiste Mhuire captured the West Leinster Division 2 title with a stunning 4-0 victory over Mercy Secondary School, Kilbeggan, at Mullingar Athletic grounds, Gainstown on Thursday.

It was a historic success for the Mullingar school as they won their first soccer title. With their midfield and strikers completely dominant, Coláiste Mhuire controlled the game for most parts and a goal from Jonah Hassett had them 1-0 ahead at the break.

They continued to dominate and press their opponents until Scott Farrelly’s header was flicked home by Patrick McLoughlin from close-range. It was 3-0 when Josh Scahill stylishly finished low to the net with a left-footed strike on 43 minutes - his class eventually leading to a goal after he had threatened for long spells.

Substitute Cian Traynor completed a fine win for Coláiste Mhuire and there were wonderful celebrations when Scott Farrelly was presented with the trophy.
