Colin's defib fundraiser

Colin Watters, who is the officer in charge of the Order of Malta Ambulance Corps, Mullingar Unit, president of Mullingar Hockey Club, and chairman of the Mullingar Spurs Supporters Group, has had “the privilege of teaching young Alfie Murray first-aid” in recent weeks.

Alfie’s older brother, sports mad Ben Murray was 13 when he tragically passed away following arrhythmic complications with his heart in 2016.

“From talking to Alfie and Ben’s mother, Alma, I’ve decided to raise some funds for a new AED and possibly fund more AEDs to be placed at community centres, sports club’s and built up areas around Mullingar,” said Colin.

“Last Christmas I turned 50 and usually I would do a fundraiser through Facebook, for a worthwhile charity, but I didn’t do one last year. So this is my way of making up for that, and not having a pint on my birthday, never mind a party.

“The more I raise, the more defibrillators they can purchase.”
