Upgrade for Kinnegad playground

A request that the Municipal District of Mullingar Kinnegad look at upgrading the playground in Killucan was made by Cllr Denis Leonard at the March monthly meeting of the Municipal District of Mullingar Kinnegad.

“Build it and they will come: young people are crying out for community facilities,” Cllr Leonard said, going on to complain that large towns are built “all over the place”, but without community facilities being provided.

The response provided by the district executive stated that it is intended to apply for funding for this work under the next round of available grants.

Cllr Leonard asked if a wheelchair swing could be provided whenever any upgrade is taking place.

Cllr Emily Wallace supported Cllr Leonard’s call, stating that over time, equipment in playgrounds does require replacing and it was up to the council to ensure these were safe for use.

She also thought it important that equipment for the differently-abled should be installed, and also seats for parents.

Support came also from the mayor of the municipal district, Cllr John Shaw, who said he believed the playground there was now about 15 years old, and in need of an upgrade.
