Council examining 600 sports centre submissions after huge public response

Six hundred submissions were made during the recent public consultation on the new regional sports complex for Mullingar, and there were 44 separate meetings held with sporting organisations, along with 10 meetings with secondary schools in the area, county council director of services Deirdre Reilly has revealed.

The subject was raised at the March meeting of Westmeath County Council by Cllr Aoife Davitt, who said that since the public consultation phase had ended, she was keen to know what the next steps should be.

Ms Reilly said the information gathered is all going to feed into the multicriteria analysis for the site.

“And so we’re going to start looking now at what we’ve gained from this stakeholder engagement,” she stated.
