Mullingar club’s hat-trick at European championships

Three Mullingar participants won gold medals at the European Mixed Martial Arts Championship in Belgrade, Serbia on Saturday.

Kayden Dalton, Cadhlá Gilhooley and Olivia Babiarz each tasted success in the prestigious tournament after a series of difficult contests. Kayden (-48) and Cadhlá (-52) were both successful at U12/13 level, while Olivia (-57) achieved success in the U14/15 age grade. The MMA fighters had multiple contests over the course of the day and to come away with three gold medals is an outstanding achievement. The Mullingar Relentless Martial Arts Club are extremely proud of the achievement.

The participants were part of the Irish team who won seven gold medals in total, as well as five silver and 11 bronze. They finished second to Ukraine at the event.

Danni and Alan McCormack are the coaches at the Mullingar club and are both involved with the Irish team – Danni is head coach. She said the achievement of the Mullingar fighters is phenomenal.

The International Mixed Martial Arts Federation (IMMAF) is overseeing the championships which will run until April 6 in the Serbian capital.
