Weather warnings issued as Storm Kathleen to arrive on Saturday

Weather warnings are in place for all of Ireland this weekend, with Storm Kathleen set to bring very strong winds during daytime hours on Saturday.

Met Éireann this morning (Thursday) issued yellow-level warnings for wind for 22 counties, including Midlands counties Westmeath, Roscommon and Offaly.

The yellow-level warnings will be in effect for 13 hours on Saturday, from 7am until 8pm.

Current indications are that parts of the west coast will be worst affected by the storm, with orange-level warnings issued for Galway, Mayo, Cork and Kerry on Saturday.

The storm comes at the end of another very wet week, and Met Éireann said people should expect some fallen trees, difficult travelling conditions and the displacement of loose objects as a result of the strong southerly winds on Saturday.

Storm Kathleen will be the eleventh named storm to hit Ireland and UK since the start of the current 2023/2024 storm season, which commenced on September 1.
