Bailiú launch festival programme

The Bailiú committee have the launched programme for their festival on the May bank holiday weekend. It is available at bailiufestival.com.

The promise something for everyone, from live music to family fun and sustainability workshops.

Festival organiser Ali Morris said: “It’s important to the team to have a variety of events, to include as much of the community as possible.

“This festival is by the people of Mullingar, for the people of Mullingar. We have so many creative people here and we just want to highlight all the wonderful aspects of our town.”

She said arts and culture are vital parts of the community and of economic development, and pointed to the Fleadh Cheoil of 2022 and 2023 as evidence.

“It is important to provide opportunities for the people of the town to gather and celebrate, and of course these events can stimulate tourism and provide employment opportunities,” she said.

Highlights of the Bailiú festival include David Kitt with support from Mya Koda at Clarkes Bar; New Jackson (live), Lolz, Eliza and support DJs over two floors at Smiddys Bar; Bailiu Family Fun with Symmetry Circus, Paul Timoney, Terrence Casey and Mary Ahearne at Mullingar Arts Centre; trad session with Seamas Hyland at Kerrigan’s Bar; Seed Saving Workshop with Anna Browne of Big Sky Flowers at Cúige Studios; a lecture on Laurence Ginnell and the 1918 Election with Dr Paul Hughes at Cúige Studios.
