Paddy Dunican to be laid to rest on Wednesday

Paddy Dunican will be laid to rest in Kilbeggan on Wednesday.

The village of Kilbeggan and the Irish racing community were plunged into mourning following the tragic death of the longstanding manager of Kilbeggan Racecourse on Saturday.

Mr Dunican had been general manager at the Loughanagore track since taking over from Tom McCormack in 1988, and over the last three decades had overseen a big increase in the number of race meetings at the rural venue, which was once on the brink of closure, and boosted the standing and profile of Kilbeggan hugely over that time.

Warm tributes have poured for Paddy since news of his sad passing emerged on Saturday. He was known as 'Mr Kilbeggan Races' all over the country and was a fierce advocate for the rural venue over many years.

His remains will repose at Nannery`s Chapel of Rest, River View, Kilbeggan (N91HR88) tomorrow, Tuesday, from 3pm until 6pm, with removal afterwards to the Church of St James, Kilbeggan (N91CC79) arriving for 7pm. His Requiem Mass will be held on Wednesday at 11am with burial in the Relic Cemetery, Kilbeggan.
