Junior winner Joe Clooney with county chairman Liam Buckley and Raymond Fay, secretary.

Gerry Coyne retains the senior title

Westmeath Pitch and Putt notes

Kilbeggan was the venue for our county matchplay held on Saturday and Sunday last. Many thanks to Kilbeggan for the wonderful condition of the course.

Despite the inclement weather it was in great condition. Thanks to the ladies who provided much needed refreshments on the two days . The weekend was tinged with sadness as we mourned the loss of Pat Rickard who sadly passed away during the week. The matches were of the highest order.

The junior grade produced a new winner in the form of custume man Joe Clooney. Joe beat the evergreen Paddy Browne of collinstown in a great final. Mick Cunningham of the host club won the third/fourth place play-off. Mark Kelly of Rochfortbridge was the impressive winner of the inter grade, beating Damien Mullins of Kilbeggan in the final. Colm Yeates also of the 'Bridge won the third place play-off. Gerry Coyne, now playing with Rochfortbridge, retained the senior title. He defeated Dutch native Rene Bloom in the final.

Pat Malone of Custume finished in third place. Well done to all our prize winners and to Liam Buckley and Ray Fay for the smooth running of the event.
