Local gardai help to launch 'Go Purple Day' fundraiser

Local garda representatives, Superintendent Bláithín Moran and Garda Stacey Looby attended the launch of this year's 'Go Purple Day' fundraising initiative, which takes place on Friday week, May 3 next.

'Go Purple Day' is An Garda Síochána's national domestic abuse awareness campaign which consolidates community partnerships between domestic abuse support services and Gardaí.

The national campaign is the brainchild of Garda Stacey Looby, who is native of Banagher in county Offaly, and is stationed in Athlone. Garda Looby started the successful fundraiser in 2020, and from humble beginnings it has now been rolled out right across the country.

The fundraiser was officially launched by Justice Minister, Helen McEntee, who encouraged everyone to get involved in the initiative by wearing purple, baking purple, sewing purple, or perhaps hosting a purple day coffee morning.

As part of the ‘Go Purple Day’ initiative, Safe Ireland and An Garda Siochána have jointly called on people to show support for victims of domestic violence by going purple at home, in the workplace or the community, and in turn to donate to their local domestic violence support service.
