O'Brien calls for upgrade of water mains

Local Independent candidate for the Moate electoral area, Michael O’Brien, is calling on Irish Water to take immediate action to upgrade the water mains supplying water to Moate and its surrounding areas.

This urgent appeal comes in response to the ongoing water outages that have plagued the community for the past 12 months, with, what he says, is "a worrying increase in frequency over recent years".

According to O'Brien, residents of Moate have endured a significant number of water outages, leading to frustration and inconvenience for families and local businesses in the area. Despite paying their property taxes and all the other taxes, they find themselves without access to this basic necessity on a regular basis.

"The situation in Moate is untenable. Our community deserves better. Families and local businesses should not have to endure the uncertainty and frustration of regular water outages, which often occur without warning. It is imperative that Irish Water takes immediate action to address this issue and upgrade the aging water mains.

“The current state of the water infrastructure in Moate is a cause for concern, with the ageing water mains in urgent need of replacement. I urge Irish Water and Westmeath County Council to prioritise the upgrade of the water mains serving Moate and surrounding areas. Our residents deserve nothing less than a dependable water supply, and it is time for action," concluded O’Brien
