Tennis club junior captains, Charlie Dupuis and Noor Elamin.

Charlie Dupuis and Noor Elamin to lead junior tennis grades

Mullingar Tennis Club notes

Mullingar Tennis Club now welcomes two new junior captains, Charlie Dupuis and Noor Elamin. Noor Elamin, a dedicated member of Mullingar Tennis Club and a great tennis player has been named junior girls captain. Meanwhile, Charlie Dupuis, a tennis lover who trains day in and day out to become better at the sport he loves, is now the junior boys captain.

Noor, who has had a racket in her hand since the age of two, and been able to hit since the age of three says she is “honoured to take this role as junior captain.” Growing up in Mullingar, with a tennis savvy family, Noor excelled when she was younger, playing competitively in Dublin. Since then, she has turned her sights more on coaching in Mullingar Tennis Club and enjoying the sport of tennis for the love of the game. Charlie on the other hand says that he has “only picked up tennis consistently in the past year,” which is a testament to his hard work ethic and drive to get better fast at the sport he has grown to enjoy.

When asked what becoming junior boys captain meant to him, Charlie replied, “It means a lot because I can give back to a club that’s been brilliant to be a part of.” If you are an avid or frequent member of Mullingar Tennis Club, it is almost certain that you will have come across Noor coaching kids as her dedication to Mullingar Tennis Club is unparalleled. Alongside Head Coach Fergus Murphy, Noor can always be seen with a smile and open for a chat with anyone that walks in the gates. Noor went on to say, “I am trying to show the benefits of having this role so when the younger players have the opportunity to take this role they will be as honoured as me to take it.”

When asked what he would like to see improved in the current state of tennis, both in Mullingar tennis club and as a whole, Charlie replied, “I would love to see a weekly ladder style of tournament in the club as it would keep all the members of the club constantly active and it would make a competitive, yet fun environment.” He said that Rafael Nadal is his favourite tennis player of all time, “because he is the biggest fighter the sport has ever seen.” And with Charlie’s work ethic, paired with his ambition, I think the junior boys players in the club for the years to come are in safe hands.

When asked who her favourite tennis player is, Noor said, “since I was little my favourite tennis player has always been Serena Williams. I was always amazed watching her play and hearing her background story which is truly inspiring and inspirational.” She followed by saying, “Serena Williams also has a great heart and does so much for funding to help support tennis players that find it hard financially. I was always inspired to be like her.”

In the months and years to come, I don’t doubt that Noor can pass on the baton to nurture and help the next generation of Serena Williams’ along, even and especially in the face of whatever barriers may stand in their way. It’s safe to say that the junior players in Mullingar Tennis Club are in safe hands, with exceptional work ethics, unrivalled passions for the sport and an unwavering drive to spread their love of tennis. It’s with great pleasure that we welcome Noor and Charlie as junior boys and junior girls captain respectively.

On behalf of everyone from Mullingar Tennis Club, I wish Charlie and Noor the best of luck in their future responsibilities.
