"What a week": Lowry celebrates dream win with McIlroy in US

"An amazing week" is how Shane Lowry described his victory alongside Rory McIlroy at the the Zurich Classic of New Orleans team event in Louisiana yesterday.

The Offaly man and his county Down teammate took home a reported $1.28 million apiece as a result of their success at the tournament.

The win came in a play-off after they had finished level with Chad Ramey and Martin Trainer on 25 under at the end of the final round.

In a social media post on X this afternoon (Monday), Shane Lowry wrote: "What a week in New Orleans with Rory McIlroy.

"To win on the PGA TOUR again is a dream, but to do it with a great friend is even better.

"Thanks to Zurich and the people in New Orleans for an amazing week and thanks to everyone for their support."

On Friday, Lowry posted an amusing video clip of himself collapsing to the ground with relief after one of his shots narrowly avoided landing in the water:

Speaking to CBS Sports after the win in New Orleans, McIlroy said: "The crowds have been absolutely amazing, to get the support we've had out there.

"We've had so much fun while doing it and it’s just a bonus to win at the end. It couldn't be better than to do it with (Shane Lowry) alongside me."
