Parts 'not easily found' for Dominick Street lights

Parts are not easily found for repairs to the decorative lights on Dominick Street in Mullingar, and that’s why some are currently not working, Cllr Bill Collentine was informed by the executive at a meeting of the Municipal District of Mullingar Kinnegad.

Cllr Collentine expressed frustration at the failure to repair lights at Dominick Street and formally asked for an update on repairs, or for the date on which the installation of LED lights is to take place.

The written response from the executive confirmed that there are a number of faults on Dominick Street, which have been reported to the lighting contractor for repair.

“However, there are also a number of legacy faults which will require significant infrastructure upgrades to replace,” the response stated, going on to add that the issue was down to the decorative nature of the lighting and the age and level of degradation of the supporting infrastructure and maintenance parts being no longer readily available.

“A trial solution has been undertaken in Athlone, the performance of this is under review and if successful it could possibly be utilised as a solution for Dominick Street,” the reply continued, before going on to explain that Westmeath County Council is also party to a regional project to upgrade public lighting in the eastern region.

“Dominick Street could be examined for potential works under this project, subject to funding,” the response concluded.
