Joey Boyle and Avril Corbett, who were married on Friday May 3.

Special day for Joey and Avril

There were great celebrations on Friday, May 3 as Raharney hurling star Joey Boyle married his long-time partner Avril Corbett in Dysart.

While it is undoubtedly a difficult and demanding time of the year for GAA stars to have their weddings, Joey and Avil enjoyed a very special occasion and agree it was the best day of their lives. The Westmeath hurling team were taking on Down the following day in the Joe McDonagh Cup, but it was one time when Joey could not be on the pitch.

The couple met in a nightclub ten years ago in Mullingar and Joey decided to pop the question last June, proposing to Avril on the top of Machu Picchu mountain, in Peru. It was a special moment in such a unique setting.

The couple got married in Avril's local church, Dysart and she said, "It was the fullest I've ever seen the church it was lovely to see everyone there to celebrate with us."

With several of Joey's teammates there to support him, Avril also had her girls from her local GAA club Loughnavalley, so as you can guess, it was a full house.

The reception was held at Bloomfield House Hotel in Westmeath with over 270 guests attending.

Congratulations to Joey and Avil who are sent best wishes for their future lives together.
