Niamh Algar lands lead role in thriller series

Niamh Algar has landed a lead role in a new Sky Original thriller series called Iris.

The Mullingar actress will be playing an ‘enigmatic genius’ who goes on the run after stealing from a philanthropist, played by Tom Hollander.

It’s created by Neil Cross, the mastermind behind the acclaimed Golden Globe Award-winning series Luther and is set in various locations around Europe, like the Alps, the Mediterranean and Rome.

On Instagram, Niamh shared her excitement to be cast in the series.

“I’m over the moon to be finally able to talk about this project and to be in such incredible company. Iris is in the works,” she said.

An official synopsis of the series reads:

“Iris is a sun-drenched chase thriller about a rootless and enigmatic genius, Iris Nixon (Niamh Algar) who steals a code from charming philanthropist Cameron McIntyre (Tom Hollander) and goes on the run.

“Armed only with her lethal intelligence and chameleonic charm, the clock is ticking for her to work out what the code could unleash before she is found.”

Filming of the series is set to begin in Sardinia, Italy later this month.

Niamh previously won the Best Actress in a Leading Role award at the 2020 IFTA’s for her work on Channel 4’s The Virtues.

She was also nominated for a BAFTA for her role in the 2019 gangster flick Calm With Horses.
