The refurbishment will ensure the main hall can be a multi-purpose and versatile space for the community

Work under way at Athboy’s Convent Community Centre

Significant work is under way at Athboy's Convent Community Centre to transform it into a multi-purpose and versatile space.

The community centre in Athboy is a place for much-needed activities and events for the people of the town.

The refurbishment includes a new roof, windows and external doors to the main hall. The adjoining flat roof areas to the hall are also being upgraded.

Funding for the project has been granted under the Community Centres Investment Fund from the Department of Rural and Community Development through POBAL.

The works are expected to be completed by early to mid June.

The umbrella group that manages the Convent Community Centre, St James' Hall and other new groups that benefit the athboy community is the Athboy Development Forum.

Athboy Community Centre have launched their ADF Community Sponsorship Initiative, with Athboy Credit Union as their main sponsor, to be able to create a visual representation of the Convent Community Centre building in the main entrance lobby that will be made up of individual blocks or plaques which groups and individuals can purchase and personalise with the sponsors name and message.

The Athboy Development Forum says: "This enhanced facility will assist and benefit everyone in the community and we are looking forward to inviting the many users of the centre from Athboy and the surrounding areas to the upgraded facility as soon as possible."
