Saunders Bridge, Mullingar.

Tender for Saunders Bridge to be published this month

The tender for Saunders Bridge is expected to be published this month and it is anticipated that construction works will start in the third quarter of the year with a construction timeframe in the region of nine months.

This was announced at a recent meeting of Municipal District of Mullingar Kinnegad, in response to Cllr Aoife Davitt.

Cllr Davitt was also told that yellow boxes will be installed at the entrances to Mullingar Community College in the coming weeks and that a pedestrian crossing can be provided between the Lakepoint and Derravarra estates, if funding is available.

Tudenham toilets

The public toilets at Tudenham, Lough Ennell, should be kept open all year, rather than the council spending money on portable toilets off-season, Cllr Ken Glynn maintains.

Speaking at the May meeting of the Municipal District of Mullingar Kinnegad, Cllr Glynn said that the council have put in new facilities there and “we want people to visit the area all year round”.

The meeting was told that the council have reopened the toilets at Tudenham earlier than previous years.

The management of that and others facilities required the employment of seasonal workers.

Opening the toilets permanently for longer hours can be examined on a trial basis.

“We are looking at the cost implications,” director of services, Deirdre Reilly told councillors at the meeting.
