Impressive Clarke points the way for Dalystown

Dalystown NS 2-11 Streamstown 0-3

A well-balanced Dalystown NS proved too strong for a gallant Streamstown NS outfit in the Hurling Division 4 final, a game noteworthy for the very solid performances of both goalkeepers, Ryan Kelly and Thomas Lynam.

Dalystown dominated for most of the first half, chalking up an unanswered 1-5 in that 20-minute period. Points from Stephen Clarke (one) and Aodán Berry (a long-range strike and a ‘35’) preceded their opening goal in the fifth minute from the stick of Conor Kiernan. The latter player then slotted over a free before Clarke rounded off first-half scoring with a point.

Two more points from Clarke and another from Berry increased the winners’ advantage to 11 points (1-8 to 0-0) early in the second moiety. Ross McNamara-Kelly then opened Streamstown's account from a free. Berry soon doubled his tally from ‘35’s, with Kiernan following up with a point from play.

McNamara-Kelly converted another free for the team in green and yellow, but a fortuitous goal from a free by Kiernan ensued at the other end. The same player added a point soon afterwards. McNamara-Kelly wrapped up the scoring by completing his points’ hat-trick.

After the match, Derek Butler, the chairman of Westmeath Cumann na mBunscol, presented the cup to the winning captain, Aodán Berry.

Scorers – Dalystown NS: C Kiernan 2-3 (1-1f), S Clarke, A Berry (2 ‘35’s) 0-4 each.
