August Craft Month returns today with a programme of more than 400 events across all corners of the island, and locals such as Eddie Conor Byrne, Claire Delabre and Caithriona Devine are among those involved.
Discover the Magic of Wet Felting

Discover the magic of transforming fluffy Merino wool fibres into three-dimensional vessels through the fun and engaging process of wet felting. Under the expertise of Feltmakers Ireland guild members, you’ll have the opportunity to create your own masterpiece using soap, water, and your hands.
If you’re curious about sheep and the different varieties of Irish wool, this event is perfect for you. Witness the fascinating reactions of various Irish wool types, which have been needle and wet felted.

Introduction to Fused Glass

Dive into the fascinating process of firing glass in a kiln as we explore the magic of fused glass. Learn about the different types of glass from textures and designs of glass to noodles stringers to frit and nuggets, how to cut and grind the glass and how to layer and assemble your pieces ready for the kiln, as well as the ins and outs of working with a kiln and different temperatures for firing your pieces. No prior experience is required.
Whether you’re a seasoned creator or a curious beginner, this cosy home studio in Delvin is the perfect space to unleash your creativity.
Weave Your Own Irish Tweed
Handmade Design Studio, 32 Mount Street, Mullingar: August 14 and 31, 10.30am-2.30pm: €90
Learn about the ancient craft of weaving and get creative! Make a teapot mat and a set of two coasters using 100% Donegal wool yarns. This workshop is a great way to slow down and appreciate the rich history of Irish tweed. You can create your own designs and start weaving straight away. Tea, coffee and a light lunch included.
