On Friday week last, January 10, Lough Lene Gaels Camogie Club held a well attended social function to present awards and medals to players and mentors, at the Castle Varagh Hotel.
Panels and team managements achieved success in 2024 in: Minor Division 2 Camogie Cup Championship; U14 Division 1 Camogie Cup Championship; and U12 Division 1 Camogie Cup League.
Lough Lene Gaels Camogie chairperson Martin Griffith opened the event, and in his remarks pointed out that the club now have 165 girls playing, and they are looking forward to the coming year.
Karen Goldrick from Westmeath Camogie County Board also spoke on the night, as did members of the hurling club, Aoife Lawlor, Tommy Doyle, and Kevin Williams, who presented the medals.
Appreciation was expressed to the parents and families who support the players by juggling busy schedules from training to matches, as well as attending and contributing to fundraising events.
Sponsors such as Glenveagh, ESB Networks, JP McManus, and local businesses were also acknowledged for their vital support at a time when rising costs for equipment and insurance make life harder for sporting and community organisations.
