'Children of Lir' float from Multy takes top prize
North Westmeath St Patrick's Day Parade Prizegiving
The entry from Multy Stove and Fireplace Fitting claimed the top prize at this year’s St Patrick’s Day Parade in Castlepollard, repeating their success of 2024.
They received their prize, along with the other winners, at a ceremony in the Castle Varagh Hotel on Sunday March 30.
The theme of the parade this year was ‘Legends of Westmeath’ and the Multy Stove and Fireplace Fitting float took a ‘Children of Lir’ theme.
A prize fund of €1200 was available, thanks to sponsorship from North Midlands Credit Union, Mergon, Decotek, BD Flood, NJ Doyne, Westmeath County Council and many more. The raffle was sponsored by Cassidy’s Hotel Dublin, and the first prize in that was a one-night stay.
Other prize winners included The Story of Turgesius, Devine Brothers, Poc Fada and the Castlepollard Men’s Shed (list below).
Donie Cassidy, who was MC, congratulated all the prize winners at the event. He said: “It was possibly the best parade we have ever had in Castlepollard.”
Donie thanked the committee and Castle Varagh Hotel for the use of the premises for their weekly committee meetings and the parade awards event. He also thanked all the sponsors for allowing participants of the parade the opportunity to be creative.
