Book in to the Valley for a weekend of fun in Delvin

As Delvin marks 15 years of providing legions of loyal customers with high quality pre-loved books – all priced from €1 – the annual festival is now known as Valley of the Books.

Delvin Book Festival is Ireland’s biggest book fair, and it takes place on Sunday May 4 from 12 noon to 5pm. The festival is the principal fundraiser for the maintenance and improvement of facilities at Delvin Sports and Leisure Centre, and it attracts an estimated 2,000 book lovers.

This year, the organisers have six venues where visitors can browse at their leisure in the search for a beach-holiday page turner, or a book for enjoying by the winter fire.

Each venue will be packed with hundreds of great books and strolling from one shop to the next will be a book-lover’s dream on the Sunday afternoon, when Delvin main street and hostelries will come alive with music and entertainment for all the family.

St Patrick’s Hall will be the hub for the afternoon, and there will be thousands of books on display there. The organisers are looking forward to hearing the hall buzzing with the conversation of chance encounters of old acquaintances.

The fun begins on Friday May 3 with an arts and crafts fair at St Patrick’s Hall between noon and 4pm, and a show with The Valley drama group in Gaffney’s Lounge that evening (8.30pm). On Saturday May 4, there is traditional music in Gaffney’s Lounge and O’Shaughnessy’s Bar.
