Shoot 'n' Stars soccer team win gold at Ireland Games Qualifiers
The Mullingar Shoot 'n' Stars Special Olympics soccer team won gold on Saturday April 28 at a qualifier match for the Ireland Games.
Those who qualify will hopefully be chosen to perform at the Ireland Games, and from there, go on to the World Games.
Mickey Myers, one of the team's best goal scorers, was on target from the corner flag to round up an impressive performance in which he scored four goals.
Mullingar scored 20 goals throughout the day and conceded only three, in a fantastic team performance.
Coach Michael Keenan praised Mickey: “He is a good lad, a fantastic goal scorer and he was brilliant on the day, netting four goals.”
Michael praised the entire team: “This team have been together for 27 years now, we have had them play in Greece, China and Berlin, there were a lot of Mullingar players who represented Ireland.
"Daryl Gahan, one of our players, travelled to Berlin in 2023 and put in some fantastic performances.
"We’ve been doing well, with players going as far as Los Angeles recently, and we are hoping that continues in the future.”
