Gardaí have closed the road

Army Explosive Ordnance Disposal team in attendance at Kilbeggan residence

Motorists in the Kilbeggan area have been advised of a road closure on the R446 on the Tyrrellspass side of the Westmeath town.

Garda Press Office confirmed that following the discovery of a suspect device army bomb disposal experts are on site.

The statement read: “Gardaí are currently in attendance at a residence in Kilbeggan, Westmeath, following the discovery of a suspect device this afternoon, Friday, 2, 2025.

"A cordon has been established and the Army Explosive Ordnance Disposal team is at the scene. There is no further information available at this time.”

Motorists are advised to avoid the area if possible and to follow diversion instructions.
