Yellow box requested for primary care centre junction
The difficulty motorists experience while attempting either to access or leave the primary care centre in Mullingar was raised for discussion by Cllr Julie McCourt at the March meeting of the Municipal District of Mullingar Kinnegad.
Cllr McCourt also asked that the district place a yellow box at the entrance to the Harbour Medical Clinic, Mullingar Primary Care Centre, to make both access and egress easier.
Support came from Cllr Emily Wallace, who said that motorists trying to get to the centre are completely reliant on the goodwill of other motorists, while Cllr Aoife Davitt also agreed, going on to state that the box needed to be on both sides of the road, in order to facilitate those leaving the centre as well as those going in.
The written response stated that the district would examine the road to determine if a yellow box is required, and district engineer, Pat Kavanagh, added that the junction has become busy, and there is a housing estate being constructed in the area, “so I wouldn’t disagree with the yellow box”.
Green Bridge issue
A further request raised by Cllr McCourt at the meeting was that the district address the flooding problem that occurs at the traffic lights on the Green Bridge on the Patrick Street side of the town.
“The water covers the footpath with pedestrians having to wait until cars pass to avoid getting splashed,” Cllr McCourt told officials, stating that the problem occurs where the beauty clinic is located. Cllr Aoife Davitt and the mayor, Cllr Ken Glynn, supported the motion, which elicited from the district an undertaking that ponding at that location will be examined.
Signs of progress
There was also a positive response from the district to Cllr McCourt’s request that staff fix/replace the sign advertising Belvedere House and Gardens on the road at Mullingar Golf Club near the junction to the entrance to Belvedere.
“The Municipal District of Mullingar Kinnegad has inspected this location and found the sign had been removed. A new sign will be ordered and placed at this location,” Cllr McCourt was assured.
