Mullingar Town Band; music, marching, and community

Notes

Mullingar Town Band have been busy in recent months, from St Patrick’s Day parades to championship performances, and now a lineup of fantastic concerts in May.

St Patrick’s weekend

The band performed in six parades over two days on St Patrick’s weekend 2025. They started with the Limerick International Band Championship on Saturday March 16, and brought home the Best Uniform Award.

On St Patrick’s Day, members showed dedication and stamina as they performed at parades in Tullamore (11.30am), Clara (12.30pm), Moate (1.30pm), Mullingar (3pm), Castlepollard (5.00pm).

It was a busy weekend of marching, music, and community spirit, and the positive feedback members received along the way made it all worthwhile.

Colourguard Success

The Colourguard competed in the Winterguard Championships on Sunday April 27, after months of preparation, and delivered a brilliant performance to take second place on a score of 76.570.

All at MTB are proud of the talented ladies. Their commitment behind the scenes and professionalism on the floor paid off. A huge well done to everyone involved.

May Concert Series

MTB are putting on three special performances this month under the baton of Vincent Dolan, all free to attend and family-friendly. Whether you’re a regular supporter or just curious to hear some lovely live music, they love to see you there.

Tuesday May 13, 7pm, Atrium, County Buildings

They start the series in the Atrium with the Sweet Tunes Choir and they welcome Professor Barry Bernhardt from Florida International University too. Prof Bernhardt, a renowned figure in the world of symphonic concert bands, will join MTB as guest conductor for one piece on the night. Having such a distinguished musician conduct the band is a huge privilege, and members look forward to sharing the moment with their audience.

Sunday May 18, 3-4.30pm, Mullingar Town Park

Enjoy a relaxing Sunday afternoon in the beautiful surroundings of Mullingar Town Park with music by the pond. The concert is weather-dependent, so please check the band’s Facebook page for updates on the day.

Sunday May 25, 3-4.30pm, Belvedere House and Gardens

MTB round off the month with a concert at Belvedere House and Gardens, a lovely way to spend a Sunday – go with friends, family, or just yourself and let the music do the rest.

South of Ireland Band Championships

MTB are also preparing for one of the highlights of the musical calendar; the South of Ireland Band Championships, in Clonakilty on Saturday July 5. It’s always an exciting and inspiring event, and they are working hard in rehearsals to give the best on the day. Wish them luck.

Weekly online lotto

MTB rely on the support of the local community to keep thriving. One way to help is by playing the weekly online lotto fundraiser. Tickets start at €2.50, and every entry helps cover the costs of instruments, uniforms, travel, and training for the young musicians. You can get your tickets at. ourfundraiser.ie/org/mullingartownband. Thank you to everyone who plays each week.
