Traffic calming works at Ballagh

An allocation of €35,000 has been made to the Municipal District of Mullingar Kinnegad for traffic calming works at Ballagh, Mullingar.

The news was relayed to Cllr Mick Dollard at the district’s April meeting when he asked what precise works the district intends carrying out on traffic calming at that location during the current year.

The written response provided stated that the district engineer will meet local residents to determine suitable traffic calming measures.

Friars Mill lighting

Cllr Dollard asked that the district look at the possibility of providing public lighting in the OPD complex at Friars Mill Road, but was told that at present, the council is neither progressing nor financing new public lighting provision until The National Public Lighting Energy Efficiency Project (PLEEP) has progressed within County Westmeath.

“Surveying of public lighting in Westmeath commenced in August 2024 and is ongoing,” the response concluded.

Tailteann Court

Cllr Dollard asked that the district reinstate the yellow line on the road at the railway bridge beside Tailteann Court to ensure the continued safety of people using the adjoining footpath and was told that will be done.

Footpath

There was also a positive response to Cllr Dollard’s request that the district upgrade a portion of the footpath at Glenview Heights: the task is to be undertaken as part of the district’s 2025 Works Programme.

Grange Crescent

Cllr Dollard also drew the district’s attention to a littering problem at Grange Crescent.

The district responded that it will arrange to meet the residents to come up with a solution.
