Serenity House in Kinnegad.

Assurances on future of Serenity House sought

An appeal to have Serenity House in Kinnegad retained as a community-use building was made by Cllr Denis Leonard at the April meeting of the Municipal District of Mullingar Kinnegad.

The Labour councillor reminded officials that the building had been originally commissioned for that purpose by the council 20 years earlier.

He said the building is currently in use by the Women’s Shed, the Active Age groups, First Responders, AA, Tidy Towns and other non-profit community-based organisations, who are all hoping to use it as a base into the future.

The written response provided by the district executive stated that the county council is supportive of the building remaining as a space for community use.

“Property management and the community section will engage with the groups to review lease arrangements and establish a community lead to manage the building,” the reply concluded.

Milltownpass traffic

At the same meeting, Cllr Leonard asked that the district of Mullingar Kinnegad look into the provision of traffic calming measures, including ramps, near the primary school in Milltownpass, where, he said, speeding is a major issue.

By way of response, the district stated that traffic calming at that location could be considered as part of future works estimates.

Raharney request

Cllr Leonard went on to ask for an update from the district on the village centre works in Raharney including the park, car parking, playground and drainage works.

Cllr Leonard was informed that the district has recently constructed a car park set down area.

“Drainage repairs will be carried out as required. The works in the park are complete and the district are currently in communication with the local residents to advise on a potential playground,” the response concluded.
