'Always listen to what Fiona says!'
Faye Clarke, recently crowned U16 World Champion in Irish Dancing, had a homecoming at Cullion Hurling Club on Monday of last week. Members of The Carson Academy and parents were at the clubhouse to welcome home their world champion and to see her trophy.
Faye has been dancing for a number of years, and has won multiple awards and championships, but the world championship had eluded her till now. There were other award winners from The Carson Academy in attendance, and their trophies were on display alongside Faye’s.
Younger members of the academy helped to provide cake, balloons, dancing and music for the homecoming celebration.
Fiona Gallagher of The Carson Academy spoke to the younger members: “I hope Faye has inspired you all, just look at her and all her hard work, and you can be absolutely anything, it’s incredible.
“Some day, I want to see one of you girls up there on that stage with those cups, so who’s it going to be?
“It was no mean feat in Dublin, every one of those girls left their heart on that stage, and I couldn’t be more proud of them.
“The World Championships was made up of the crème de la crème of Irish Dancing, from all over the world.
“Some results didn’t go our way, but that’s life, we cannot fault the work that these girls put in, it’s incredible and we are so proud of them.”
As Fiona showed the younger children the World Championship trophy, Faye Clarke offered a piece of advice: “Just always listen to what Fiona says!”
