Traffic calming works at St Brigid’s Well area sought
A number of road-related requests were made by Cllr Aoife Davitt at the April meeting of the Municipal District of Mullingar Kinnegad.
She asked for water cuts in Macetown and Cooksborough, to which the response was that the district had advised that drainage maintenance would be carried out there as part of normal maintenance.
She also asked that the district make good the road on the L5026 close to the rail crossing, and was informed that €25,380 is allocated for resurfacing works as part of the 2025 restoration programme.
A further request was that the debris on the pull-in areas at Bellmount, Ballinea be cleared – the response was that the work would be done the following week.
St Brigid’s Well
Cllr Davitt also asked that the district carry out safety works to effect traffic calming at the St Brigid’s well area at Cullion; the response from the council was that the district will examine that location to determine if works or traffic calming are required.
Swifts
Cllr Davitt was that the district consider erecting signage at the lakes to educate people about swifts.
In its response, the district stated that biodiversity signage has already been installed at the lakes and a Habitat Management Plan recently prepared for Lough Ennell commented on the proliferation of signage at lake shore locations and recommended rationalising signage there.
“While swifts do feed over the lakes, their nest sites are generally located in buildings so perhaps a location like Belvedere might be more appropriate for this information,” the response concluded.
