Raharney sewerage issue rises again

A problem with raw sewage rising up in the gardens of a housing estate in Raharney that first came to light last January was raised again at the May meeting of the Municipal District of Mullingar Kinnegad.

Cllr Denis Leonard (Lab) raised the issue again at the monthly meeting of the authority calling for an update on the interactions with Irish water and the local authorities water section on the sewage issues in Ashcroft Park and Village Close in Raharney. In response the council said the matter has been referred to Uisce Éireann for a response.

Director of Service Deirdre Reilly said that although the matter had started out with the council, it now lay with Uisce Éireann.

“That is not a great place for it to lie,” Cllr Leonard stated.

In another motion, Cllr Leonard sought an update on the progress with the National Transport Authority and Bus Éireann on a new bus stop for the 115 service on the western side of Kinnegad. The motion noted the site is adjacent to six large estates and two smaller estates and houses a large proportion of Kinnegad’s town-based population.

The reply to the councillor’s query said a letter was issued to the NTA and Bus Éireann; however, the local authority have not received a reply yet.
