Annual lunch event helps Mullingar Soroptimists support work of local charities

Sarah McCormack presented Alison Murphy and Eithne Walsh with €500 for the Shoebox Appeal.One of the notable Christmas events in Mullingar is the charity lunch organised by Soroptimists, on the first Friday of December.
Upwards of 250 people who are regular supporters of the work of Soroptimists support the event, and it is an occasion to catch up with friends before the Christmas rush.
Many local businesses take the opportunity of hosting a table for their employees to celebrate Christmas.
The proceeds from the lunch are dispersed to local charities to support the valuable services they provide for those most vulnerable in our community.
On Tuesday May 13, the proceeds from the 2024 Christmas Lunch were presented to the following organisations: ROC repay-in kind; Ben’s Lifeline; LARCC; TEAM; Tanzanian Heavenly Homes; Women’s Community Projects; The Shoebox Appeal.
A total of €5,500 was presented and a further donation will be made to North Westmeath Hospice later in the year.
Mullingar Soroptimists are grateful for all the support they receive from those that attend the lunch and to the many donations received from local businesses.
The 2025 Christmas Lunch is scheduled for Friday December 5 in the Greville Arms Hotel.
