Tractor run harvests funds for Emper NS
When pondering a fundraiser for Emper NS, the principal Fiona Brennan and her neighbour came up with the idea of a tractor run, and to approach Ballynacargy Vintage Club to see if they could help.
The club members were delighted to do so, and began discussing it last September at a meeting, and later some of them visited the school to discuss the plan. The support of an established club was vital to the safe and successful running of the event, particularly in terms of permits and insurance, and the availability of experienced personnel.
As well as the tractor run on the day, there was a raffle for prizes donated by children and families in the school community, and vintage club members were generous too – they donated the top three spot prizes; there were nearly 30 spot prizes all together.
Ms Brennan, colleagues and pupils at Emper NS, as well as, invited Mick Cahill and John Jo Burke from the vintage club to the school last week for the presentation of the funds raised.
She said: “I would like to thank all the members of the Ballynacargy Vintage Club particularly John Jo Burke, Mick Cahill, Mick and Josie Wilson, for their fantastic support and help organising the tractor run in aid of Emper NS.
“We raised a total of €3860, which will purchase two new electronic whiteboards for the school.
“I would also like to thank the parents association, include Paul Duggan and Eddie Maguire. A big thank-you to the wider community of Emper for hugely supporting the tractor run. A special thanks to Brendan Burke, Paul Duggan, Tom Walsh and Mick Phelan for preparing and decorating the church grounds for the event.”
Ms Brennan also thanked those who made buns and prepared and served the tea and coffee before and after the run.
