Cruinniú na nÓg events scheduled across Westmeath on June 7
The national day of free creativity for children and young people called Cruinniú na nÓg, is returning to Westmeath on June 7.
The initiative is part of the Creative Ireland Programme’s Creative Youth Plan, which aims to help children and young people reach their creative potential.
There are events being held across Westmeath, in Mullingar, Athlone and Moate, aimed at all ages up to 18.
Mullingar Library will host three events: Swish and Jiggle Under the Sea, which is aimed at preschoolers who love creativity, sound and the sea.
This event will start at 10 am and finish at 11.40 am. Mullingar Library will also host a screening of The Children of Lir, which is a film created by Second Class Students at Holy Family NS.
This event will start at 12.15 pm and end at 1.15 pm. There will also be a Pottery Jam at Mullingar Library, which is a workshop consisting of ceramic hand-building techniques with Westmeath Ceramicist Stephanie McGuinness.
This event will start at 10 am and end at 1 pm. At the YoYo Cafe in Columb Barracks, there will be a scriptwriting course aimed at teenagers called ‘Teens Telling Tales’, from 4 pm to 5.30 pm.
At The Live Forge in Dún na Sí Amenity and Heritage Park in Moate, there will be a live Blacksmith Demonstration aimed at those aged 9 to 18, running from 11 am to 2 pm.
In Athlone, there will be a ‘Garden to Gallery-Couture' event, which will consist of children showcasing their creations at a fashion show in the courtyard of Athlone Castle.
