Great darts final ahead as Shamrocks meet The Maypole
The final of the Westmeath Darts League is scheduled for this evening, Friday May 30, in The Granite Bar (McHugh’s), Raharney, and an eagerly awaited match lies in store.
Mullingar Shamrocks, who were finalists last year and champions in 2023, meet The Maypole Bar, Collinstown, and the two leading teams are set to serve up a great end to the local darts year.
The sides have met twice in the league thus far and on both occasions, Mullingar Shamrocks came away with the spoils.
In their respective semi-finals, Mullingar Shamrocks overcame The Wagon Wheel, Ballynacargy, while The Maypole emerged victorious over Bagnall’s ‘A’, Rochfortbridge.
The teams are littered with experienced and quality players all of which makes for a fascinating finale to the league.
Last year, Mullingar Shamrocks were dethroned by Moate, but they have come back determined to reclaim the title and, having topped the league, overall, will carry the favourite’s tag. But only just.
The Maypole Bar, having already won the Cup title in recent weeks, will be geared up for a big performance, and plenty of quality scoring and good finishing is expected.
The final will consist of three games of doubles, followed by six games of singles and the first team to reach five will take the title. As always, the three doubles matches are key and if any of the teams were to take a healthy lead at the start, it could prove crucial. The teams are expected on the oche at approximately 9.30pm.
Mullingar Shamrocks team: Mickey McKnight, Wilo McLoughlin, Ger McLoughlin, Keith Mahon, Aidan Reilly, Brandon Gilsenan, Billy Conway, Kevin McKnight, Sylvester Keane, Ollie McNamee, Ross Kelly.
Maypole team: Ray Enright, Derek Delaney, Paul Radford, Barry Kiernan, Daniel Beegan, Gerry Deveraux, Stephen O’Farrell, Derek Burke.
Good luck to both teams and you can follow westmeathexaminer.ie and the Westmeath Examiner newspaper for coverage of the final.
