St Finian's celebrate TY Class of 2025
St Finian’s College celebrated the Graduation Ceremony and Awards Evening for the TY Class of 2025 on a beautiful summer evening in Gaffney Hall in the middle of May. The ceremony was led by TY coordinator and year head Mr David Andrews.
This was the eighth TY group to graduate since the college introduced the programme.
There were awards for all aspects of school and TY specific life from academic, music and art, to sport, politics, volunteering, enterprise, leadership, personal development, work experience and student of the year.
Mr Andrews was assisted and supported by lead tutors in TY, Daniel Connell, Cian Harmon, Ruth Coloe and Audrey Brown.
Many special moments from the year were addressed – and the award winning production of ‘West Side Story’, the trips to Paris, the Foróige initiative in Leadership, the Young Social Innovators, the day trips and the volunteering, were just some of the key moments highlighted.
Mr Andrews paid a great tribute to what an exceptional group this class were.
Mr Connell and Ms Brown spoke passionately and positively about the collective experience that the musical brought to all.
Dominic Flynn presented the Dominic Flynn Volunteer Award to Liepa Cmukaite. Aisling Ryan presented Oisín Kehoe with the History Award. Emma Carey presented Roseanna Corbett and Jamie McDonnell with the Personal Development Award. Mr McHugh presented Katie Matthews, Jamie McDonnell and Rachel Haughey with Leadership Awards.
Mr McHale, principal, presented the Student of the Year Award to Alannah Buckley. Alannah spoke to her classmates and audience with sincerity, in a presentation that was insightful and thoughtful.
Mr McHale spoke to all about the positivity of the year group, their commitment and leadership. He reminded them that they are well poised for September and commencing fifth year.
The evening closed with a beautiful musical performance with the entire year group.
Students, parents and staff were treated to refreshments afterwards.
School management take this opportunity to thank the “fantastic catering and care-taking staff that look after all that visit St Finian’s so well”.
In a statement they added: “This is an exciting time in St Finian’s College as the school embraces a dynamic evolution, with continued commitment to excellence and inclusion along with strong core values.
“The students progressing into fifth year next September will see the complete transformation of this campus over their second level experience. They will continue to be at the centre of progressive, high-quality, co education in a rapidly altering educational landscape.
“The entire school community wishes all TYs the best for their future and congratulations on a great year.”
