Happy snapping as Westmeath's Phil wins for top pic

Mullingar ICA member, Phil Kiernan, was presented with the Inter Federation Cup for colour photography at the national ICA AGM in Athlone on May 24. National President, Mary D'Arcy presented Phil with the perpetual cup.

The topic for colour photography this year was 'Sunset' so Phil took to the shores of Lough Owel to catch the winning snap. The judge said: "The reflection of the sky very well captured in the water and the colours are magnificent. The reeds, mid-picture, add to the depth of vision."

Phil said she was shocked but delighted to win this national award: "We all take photos everyday, and I didn't believe this on was anything special, but obviously, the judge did. I nearly didn't enter at all, but decided at the last minute and am chuffed that I did."

The photography competition is one of several competitions held annually within ICA. Other competitions include creative writing, art, set-dancing, singing, lace and handcraft. Mullingar Guild participated in the drama competition which was held in An Grianán last March.
